Admission Requirements

UNCG's admission requirements are the same for in-state and out-of-state students.

Here is the profile of UNCG's average admitted freshman (fall 2017)*:

  • Average high school GPA: 3.81
  • SAT middle 50 percent ranges: 490-590 (critical reading) and 490-590 (math)
  • Average ACT: 24

*Please note that the numbers above are averages, so many admitted students will have higher or lower profiles.

Transfer applicants must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average for all college coursework to be considered for admission, and a minimum of 24 transferable semester hours (credits) from a regionally accredited institution. Transfer students who have completed fewer than 24 semester hours may still apply for admission; however, they must submit SAT or ACT scores.

Applicants must meet minimum course requirements based on the year they graduated from high school. Freshman and transfer applicants must submit of an official copy of their high school transcript to demonstrate that they have met these requirements.

Minimum course requirements for students graduating in 2006* and beyond are as follows:

English: 4 units (emphasis on grammar, composition, and literature)
Math: 4 units (including algebra I, geometry, algebra II, and one unit beyond algebra II*)
Science: 3 units (including at least one unit in life or biological science, at least one unit in physical science, and at least one laboratory course)
Social Science: 2 units (must include one unit of U.S. history and one unit of history, economics, sociology, or civics)
Foreign Language: 2 units of the same language (American Sign Language acceptable)

* Students who graduated prior to 2006 should contact the admissions office for more information on minimum course requirements for their graduation year.

Some of these admission requirements may be modified or waived for adult and non-traditional students. If you have been away from formal schooling for at least 12 consecutive months and/or are 21 years of age or older, please schedule an appointment by calling 336.334.5243.
